auXync launches at Canberra International Music Festival 2026

In collaboration with the Canberra International Music Festival and Techie Bazaar, auXync Pty Ltd successfully launched its live synchronised video-streaming app for carillon performance, enabling the National Carillon’s soundscape to be synchronised with an augmented-reality video feed appearing directly on GPS-enabled smartphones.

In beautiful autumn weather on Queen Elizabeth II Island, audiences experienced the world premiere of five new works: Christopher Sainsbury’s Blue Plains and four separate Bell Curves interludes by artistic director Eugene Ughetti, in an all-Australian concert program.

Led by Senior Carillonist Dr Thomas Laue with guest artist Dylan Slater on electric guitar, the performance wove the carillon’s expansive resonance with amplified live and pre-recorded instruments (and Australian Magpie) in a major open-air sonic event for Canberra.

During the concert, the auXync prototype app supported up to 16 concurrent users, all streaming video smoothly and in perfect synchrony with the acoustic sounds, demonstrating a world-first application of low-latency streaming technology tailored specifically to live, outdoor carillon performances.

This launch marks an important milestone in our mission to connect audiences with large-scale acoustic instruments in place-based contexts, expanding access to concerts that are often experienced acousmatically.
